Health, Safety, Security
& Environment (HSSE)

We pledge to prevent all accidents, occupational illnesses, and environmental harm in accordance with our HSSE Policy. Therefore, in order to achieve technological, organizational, and behavior-based safety, we consistently optimize the operations of all of our subsidiaries and foster a proactive safety culture. Hamburg’s Corporate Department of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) sets standards and policies for each of its subsidiaries. To achieve ongoing improvement, benchmarks are set and performance is compared.

In compliance with our HSSE Policy, we commit to preventing all accidents, occupational diseases, and environmental impact. Therefore, we continuously optimize the operations of all of our subsidiaries and promote a proactive safety culture in order to achieve technological, organizational, and behavior-based safety. For every one of its subsidiaries, Pronav Shipping Corporate Department of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) establishes guidelines and policies. Benchmarks are set and performance is compared in order to achieve continuous improvement.

We have introduced the following Safety Principles and Life Saving Rules as part of our continuous improvement path towards Target Zero (no harm to people and the environment). These guidelines represent our views and the ways in which we improve our safety performance and culture.

In order to achieve continuous improvement and best-in-class performance, Pronav Shipping adheres to the highest Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards. This is reflected in the HSSE policy and in line with the company’s vision and mission. Targets are set, and performance is benchmarked.

HSSE Policy

Handling significant volumes of valuable and potentially hazardous liquids requires cautious and safe procedures. We promise to constantly operate all of our facilities safely and efficiently throughout the world. In addition to protecting the environment, our goals include preventing work-related diseases, accidents, and injuries. Because of this, we work to achieve technical, organizational, and behavior-based safety by constantly improving every area of our operations and by fostering a proactive safety culture.

In 2020, we unveiled eight safety principles that enhance our performance and safety culture and represent our beliefs. We hold ourselves fully accountable for safety performance, and safety is a core value that informs every decision made at every level of our organization. The management will adamantly and transparently back the implementation of this policy. We require the cooperation of all of our employees, contractors, and other workers in order for our HSSE performance to continue gaining us the trust and confidence of our customers, neighbors, and the community at large.

Risk Assessment

Owing to the range of activities that the group of firms engages in, it is critical to assess each risk separately. We create custom standards and work instructions, as well as execute custom metrics, based on this study. We participate in more than just statistical analyses in order to learn from mishaps. Accidents undergo in-depth analysis to find areas for improvement across the entire organization. Furthermore, promotional campaigns aimed at raising risk awareness in daily work routines reinforce our proactive strategy. We keep raising the contractors’ HSSE requirements. A contractor safety handbook was created for this reason, for example, at Oiltanking. The sites use a web-based database to help them choose contractors based on predetermined standards.

A large number of our staff members travel on business-related occasions. Therefore, another crucial topic on our HSSE agenda is travel safety. Our parent company, Marquard & Bahls, has entered into a service agreement with a top provider of medical aid, foreign healthcare, and security services to ensure that expats and workers traveling for business receive the best medical advice and services available. In addition, there is a daily updated web-based airline-vetting database and a group-wide handbook on travel safety to assist our staff in organizing overseas business travels.

Security of Our Facilities

Every business has implemented adequate safeguards against possible attacks on the safety of our facilities, keeping in mind particular regional security issues. Among the techniques are camera surveillance, motion detectors, fencing, and access control systems. The meticulous training and supervision of all outside employees operating at the terminal, including contractors, surveyors, and truck drivers, is a key component of our security strategy.

Advancements in modern technology are associated with an ever-growing volume of data files and their interconnectivity. Apart from the indisputable advantages, there are also novel risks. We place a high priority on protecting personal information in accordance with our values of integrity and social responsibility, regardless of whether the data is used in a foreign country or relates to customers, suppliers, or staff .
